Hospital bags and puppy wearing and running- oh my!

The last 4 weeks have been full of growing belly aches, fatigue, hot temperatures, and the struggle to stay active. Today I woke up on the right side of the bed with minimal excuses, so I set my mind to a 5k. I told myself "even if it takes you 45 minutes... just go do this!" Most mornings, I take so long to get woken up and feeling ready for the day that I let the heat of the day set in, and then there's my biggest excuse! No way is it safe to get out there so pregnant with temps in the 90s! But hallelujah, I got out of my own head this morning and made it. As soon as I got going, I found myself behind two stroller moms with little bitty babies, and I followed behind them for a mile, and while I usually hate following other runners at their pace, I thoroughly enjoyed checking out and slowly chugging along. There was a sense of camaraderie, even though they didn't know I was running with them! Creepy running buddy here.

I've done very little running in the last few weeks-- maybe 3-4 runs tops, and I've truly missed it! I loved settling into my stride and catching up on some Fit2Fat2Fit experience podcast. It was warm but not so stifling that I paid it any attention. Really, it was just the weaknesses in my legs and lower back that kept my attention. My back started to ache during my first walk break a mile and some change in and got a little better towards the end, but I'm definitely feeling the added strain now. I'm going to need to be very mindful of stretching and posture over the next several weeks. I'm a big believer in the power of SPECIFIC goals, so I'm going to try to keep mine realistic and achievable until I'm cleared to go back at this postpartum. For now until Rhett comes into this world, I'm saying I want to tackle at least 2 miles in a single undertaking 3x per week. I'm not putting pace or effort level to that so that I can waddle 2 miles if that's all I've got, or I can try to knock out a few more 5ks in the meantime. I'll also want to continue glute bridges, squats, fire hydrants, and general stretching at least 2x per week. There ya go, universe! There's my goals-- now hold me accountable :)

The rest of today is dedicated to packing my hospital bag! Happy day! I've read so many different lists of what to pack and what you don't need and what you might forget that my poor little foggy pregnant brain might explode, so I'm going at this with no list. We live 3 miles from the hospital, so it'll be no biggie if there is something I forget. No more stressing over silly things at this point!
<---- What's this got to do with anything? Well, it doesn't, except that yesterday on Father's day, we practiced baby wearing with our new Boba wrap and tried it out on Hurley, and he loved it. I'm just so in love with this picture, so I can't imagine how much more in love I'll be when it's Rhett in there!
